Mexico: US ready to aid drug fight |

US Defence Secretary said America wants to increase military assistance to Mexico in their fight against drugs trafficking, and praised the Mexican president's courageous effort tackling the cartels that predecessors refused to acknowledge.
blank_pageHe was prepared now to help Mexico in its fight against the cartels controlling the flow of illegal narcotics. More than 1,000 people have been killed so far this year and more than 6,000 people were killed in 2008 in drugs related violence. He said aid could come through military hardware, training and intelligence support to the Mexican authorities in their fight against the well-armed and organised drugs traffickers. A US Pentagon report said the drugs-related violence could turn Mexico into a failed state. A Mexican drug lord fugitive is reputedly one of the richest people in the world earning an estimated fortune of $1bn (£720m).
